HQ Driver Services public counter to close Dec. 31
Plans are under way to close the Driver Services walk-in customer service counter at the Headquarters office, effective at the close of business on Dec. 31. After that date, all driver services will be conducted by phone, the Internet, fax and mail.
ITD’s Driver Services counter has been open for many years, serving mostly local individuals who wish to reinstate their driver’s license or obtain driver records, explains DMV Administrator Alan Frew.
“The closure of the walk-in counter has become necessary because of growing statewide service demands commensurate with a growing population, including higher volumes of phone calls, administrative license suspension hearings and increases in suspension and reinstatement activity. “
Existing staff will be reassigned to meet these urgent needs. While the number of Idaho licensed drivers has increased by 17 percent since 1999, Driver Services has had no staffing increases during that same period.
